Medicare’s mandatory bundled payment initiative, the Transforming Episode Accountability Model (TEAM), launched in 2026 and is reshaping how hospitals and surgeons manage surgical episodes of care. Under TEAM, 31 Louisiana hospitals are required to assume financial accountability for five high-cost surgical episodes, from hospital admission through 30 days after discharge, for Major Joint Replacement of the Lower Extremity (LEJR), Surgical Hip and Femur Fracture Treatment (SHFFT), Spinal Fusion, Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG), and Major Bowel Procedures. Surgeons play a critical role in improving care coordination, quality outcomes, and episode efficiency under this new payment model. In this webinar, subject matter experts from the American College of Surgeons and Brandeis University will provide an overview of the TEAM model, discuss practical strategies for success in bundled payments, and review clinical best practices that support high-value surgical care. The session will also explore potential Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) changes, including the Request for Information (RFI) related to Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) and physician-owned hospitals participating in TEAM.
