Engaging Patients and Families in Maternity Care Performance and Quality Improvement

A Webinar Presented by the NCHF Maternal Health Action Network

Sustainable, measurable improvements in maternal and neonatal health outcomes are results of solutions designed with patients, rather than for them. This webinar will explore how intentionally co-designing structures, processes, and cultural conditions alongside patients and families has the potential to strengthen performance improvement, quality, and safety within maternity care settings. By elevating lived experiences and amplifying patient stories, this session will illustrate the value of strategically investing in authentic collaboration and shared decision-making throughout the maternity care continuum. Discussion will also include strategies for the development and sustainment of successful Maternity Care Patient and Family Advisory Councils (PFACs), their role in data-driven quality and safety initiatives, and emerging regulatory and accreditation standards that require active patient and family engagement.
