What Patients Really Want: Hearing the Person Behind the Complaint
Organizational processes for addressing grievances and complaints are a key focus for review by regulatory agencies. Although most organizations are compliant with the requirements set by regulation, they may struggle to meet the intent of using grievance and complaint data to address the issues brought forth by patients and their family members. As Leaders, we need to find the answer to questions related to:
- What can we do to understand what the patient wants or needs
- How can staff advocate for patients that may reduce the number of grievances and complaints?
- Do those involved in the grievance and complaint process understand how to use data to make sustainable improvements to address reported issues?
