The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Critical Access Hospital Swing Bed Requirements and Changes

This webinar will focus on the swing bed changes implemented by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in 2019. In the update, CMS completely revised all of the swing bed regulations and the Tag numbers.  For example, the swing bed interpretive guidelines and survey procedures are now under Appendix PP.  1135 Waivers available to Critical Access Hospitals with Swing Beds will also be discussed during this session.

CEO's, CFO's, COO's, CMO's, CNO's, Physicians, Compliance Officer, Joint Commission Coordinator, Quality Improvement personnel, Risk Manager and Legal Counsel.

  • Outline the recent changes to the swing bed protocols made by CMS
  • Recall that CMS has rewritten the entire section on swing beds
  • Describe what is required by CMS to be in the resident assessment 
  • Identify the CMS requirements on patient activities of swing bed patients
