Webinar: Reducing Point of Care Violence

Target Audience:
This meeting is beneficial for hospital leaders, physicians, nurses, security, operations, human resources and emergency management.

Overview:

Point of care refers to the front line staff and interactions with patients, visitors, and other staff. This webinar will review effective methodologies including the use of tools, training, and technology, to reduce violence at the point of care. It will also discuss methods to build a pro-active program focused on overall reductions in workplace violence. 

Conditions of participation (CoPs) and Accrediting Organizations (AO) standards will be referred to in general and in specific instances. For example, a patient’s right to receive care in a safe setting will be addressed. Additionally, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standard of a person’s right to work in a safe setting. We will also include guidance from collaborations with The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Joint Commission (TJC) regarding use of force and weapons.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify root causes and predictors of violence in healthcare settings.
  2. Plan and design a program to reduce workplace violence.
  3. Develop, teach and evaluate competencies related to workplace violence.

Mike serves as the subject matter expert in healthcare security. He assists security operations and business development by providing subject matter expertise and guidance in program development, compliance, safety, emergency management, business continuity, accreditation survey readiness, education and training.
